I was raised in St. George, Utah by a family of educators. My grandmother has her Doctorate in Leadership and Policy Studies and teaches special education at an inner city school in Tennessee. Because every student has the ability to learn, my grandma has helped develop many different teaching strategies. My mother taught in Washington School District at Dixie Middle for 23 years. These two wonderful ladies have given me a deep desire to educate the upcoming generation. They have given me insights into teaching that only come from continuous love and passion for the profession. I have always found science interesting. From a young age my mother would take me on her science adventures. These trips gave me a deep knowledge of what St George has to offer the science world. For example, I had the opportunity to count bats living in the area. It was educational and exciting. Because my mom always had me do a science fair experiment each school year, I developed a great love for inquiry. My science adventures and my love of teaching is what gave me the drive to attend Dixie State University and complete my degree in Biology in Secondary Education. I am very excited to share my love of science with my students. As a science teacher, I hope to teach science in such a way that every student can understand and find interesting. I have high expectations for all students and I am confident that they will achieve them. I believe that once a teacher teaches a student how he/she learns, the student can continue learning throughout his/her lifetime. I have worked at Dixie Middle for about four years in the Special Education department as a paraprofessional. I know firsthand that students can learn if they are given the right strategies and motivation. I want to teach science in a way that engages students and gets them to look at the world in a new way. I want to encourage students to ask "why" questions because that type of inquiry keeps a student motivated to learn. As a teacher, I plan on teaching the practical, real world application of science. I want my students to see the importance of their education as a virtual door to their future. Education is a continuous process. I plan on getting endorsements in multiple sciences and math. I also plan on getting my Masters in Administration. Dr. Seuss said it best, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn the more places you'll go." I have had many experiences exploring the area in which we live and I have found that science is all around us. I have gone canyoneering in Zion’s National Park, as well as, doing some major hikes, like both the West Rim and East Rim of the Grand Canyon. Additionally I have hiked the Subway, and the Narrows in Zion’s National Park. I have seen the beautiful habitat in which canyons can support life. I have been scuba diving in Sand Hollow. I have seen the aquatic life that thrives there. I have hiked the Grand Canyon, which is one of the world’s wonders. I have been to many other wonderful places, like Bryce Canyon, Valley of Fire, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Death Valley, and many more. I have experienced science in the real world, and I plan on sharing my experiences and love for learning with my students. I have an attraction to the teaching world. I love the rush I get as I captivate a room of learning minds. My Mother has been a long standing teacher for the Washington County School District for over 20 years. As I have watched my mother’s determination to share her knowledge and her enthusiastic interaction with her students I have formed a strong decision to become a teacher like her. I have a deep love of teaching. I take great pride in myself. I have an inquiring mind, flexibility to a changing ingenious, responsible, honest work ethic, tolerant of others, always progressing towards, love developing new ideas, loyalty, motivation, and a great communicator. Learning and teaching are in my blood. I enjoy exploring new ways of teaching and problem solving. I also have a sense of humour. I believe, “If you’re not having fun you’re not doing it right.” My long-term goals are to become an effective High School Biology teacher then move into administration or teach at a community college. Intelligence is important, I want to be continually teaching and sharing my knowledge. I want to be a strong example of work ethic and dedication.
